Annoyed And Running Out Of Patience
Davin’s patience with the woman was near its end as he waited for her to finish. Despite the old lady’s promise to not take too long, more than five minutes had passed since. His trust in her had long left the room.
Five more minutes passed, and she was still in the car. Just as his blood neared boiling point and he was getting ready to swing the door open, she finally opened it.
Things Would Just Get Harder
With a weak smile on her face, she slowly walked around her tiny Mazda sedan. He thought that she would finally fill it up with gas and be on her way. Alas, more of his time would be consumed. Unbeknownst to him, the old lady had no intentions of making things any easier for him.
He was about to speak when she walked past him and straight past the pumps. Flabbergasted, he wondered where she was going. It was suddenly evident that he had been tricked as he saw her approach the set of automatic sliding doors.
Completely Furious
There was no more room for patience in him, and he felt the rage that had been slowly building up reach its peak as he watched her walk into the convenience store. What would happen next, he wondered once more. Of course, logically, the fault lay with the gas station for having only one gas pump in what was occasionally a busy street.
But there was no room for logic in Davin. All he knew was that the old lady had tried and tested his patience beyond redemption. More than one parking spot was available if relaxing in a parked car had been her mission. Clearly, as things stood, there was more to her intentions. Clearly, the woman had lied to him. All Davin had left was to teach her a lesson!
Making The Call
Of course, without being aware of it, the woman was not messing with just a regular Joe. No, Davin had more to him than just his seemingly low-class position. He had connections to people who could make her life a living hell.
Without thinking twice, Davin took out his phone, wiped the camera, and took a few shots of the old lady’s car. After tapping on his phone for a few seconds, he put it to his ear. A few more seconds passed. “That is the mess I described in the text. Do you think it is something you can handle? Yes, come down here now!” he commanded in a hushed tone, his eyes still glued in the woman’s direction.
Vengeance Had To Be Exerted!
Shortly after making the call, Davin lit a cigarette and waited. 20 minutes later, the woman was casually strolling about the store, seemingly taking her sweet time, aisle by aisle. Davin even saw her stop by the store bakery, where she chatted with the store assistant before standing by, assumingly waiting on an order. He was happy with this, knowing that this gave him more time to plan his revenge.
A few minutes later, his cigarette burnt out, and he was getting ready to light another one. His attention turned away from the cigarette box to the eastern end of the street, where a large truck came driving down. He smiled and put the box back into his pocket. The closer the truck got, the louder it sounded. His backup had finally arrived. The revenge plan was well in motion.
A Moment Of Truth
Inside the store, the old woman was done with her shopping and waved goodbye to the shop assistants, a smile on her face. As the sliding doors opened and she strolled out, grocery bags in both her hands, she was shocked to notice something had happened outside: her car was not where she had left it!
Not only was it not where she had parked it, but it was nowhere to be seen! In its place was the greasy-haired man she had seen outside the store earlier, smiling as he poured gas in his car.
Now You Pay!
After looking around for a few minutes, anxiously wondering what could have happened, she stopped in her tracks and looked at Davin. A light bulb lit up and it dawned on her. She walked up to Davin – who had a sinister smile on his face – and asked him, “Excuse me, sir – would you happen to know what could have happened to my car?!”
Just as he was about to give her a misleading answer, he had his own light bulb light up. She had to be told what had happened to her car so the lesson he was about to teach her could be even clearer. She had to feel all that he had felt all those moments ago when he had been fuming and almost forced to chain smoke!
Understanding Davin Edwards
See, to understand why Davin Edwards could go to the extent of doing what he had done, you would have to know a little more about his background. Growing up, he had been taught by his rural parents that to earn people’s respect, you had to also respect them.
And perhaps, even more so, be patient with them. But being an adult and moving out of his family home, he found out the logic did not apply in the real world. People were just generally selfish and greedy. But even then, he had high hopes for humanity and believed that not everyone was bad – Children and old people, especially.
Spreading His Wings
After finishing senior high school, Davin embarked on a self-discovery journey, trying to find himself outside of what his parents had embedded in him. Soon, through experience, he would discover just how cruel the world could be!
He had not done well enough in school to progress to tertiary-level education, so the manual labor sector was where he would find his bread and butter. Of course, it was not exactly an ideal job sector, but it afforded him his own place and put food on the table.
Just Another Regular Day
He had never worked in construction before but was eager to learn and put in the hours. The city was full of new buildings being constructed, which meant there was an abundance of sites to go to. All he did was wait for a call-up to any of them.
That week, he had received an early call-up on a Monday morning. For the first time, his boss assigned him to work on a school construction project in the peripheral neighborhood, which was the furthest he had ever been from his house.
Getting Ready
Davin agreed to the request and put the phone down. He rubbed his eyes and hauled himself out of bed to face the day. He took a shower and got dressed in his normal clothing. He threw his high visibility jacket and hard hat in his truck bed.
The only thing that alluded to his job was the boots he was wearing. He wore his steel-toed safety boots and climbed into his truck. He was ready to head out to his job.
Hitting The Road
Davin hit the road. He checked his GPS and saw that it would take an hour to get to work. He was glad he woke up early, or he wouldn’t have made it in time. But then he realized something upsetting.
He had been on the road for 20 minutes when he glanced down at his dashboard. His eyes grew wide when he realized that his fuel was low.
Looking For A Gas Station
Davin started feeling a bit nervous. He was on a country road and hadn’t seen signs indicating that there’d be anything useful for him. The last thing he needed was to get stranded out in the middle of nowhere.
Thankfully, after another ten minutes, he finally saw it in the distance. There was a gas station ahead of him. But he had no idea what was waiting for him there.
Arriving
Davin let out a heavy sigh. He was relieved that he wasn’t going to get stranded in the middle of nowhere. But as he got closer to the place, he started noticing something strange.
It didn’t look like the typical gas station he was used to. For some reason, it was a lot smaller than the ones on the main roads. But he needed gas, so he had no choice but to stop there.
Not Alone
Pulling into the gas station, Davin noticed that he wasn’t alone. A car had pulled into the station just before him. It was a small city car. Why was it all the way out here? He saw the car stop at the gas pump.
He didn’t worry about it, assuming there were plenty of pumps. But as he looked around, he noticed something disheartening.
Only One Pump
The small gas station only had one gas pump. How did they manage to get any business with only one pump? Then he realized that probably not a lot of people used the road.
