The Audacity
She sat there, utterly speechless, as the man continued his warning. In all the years she spent living in Kansas, she had never heard something so ridiculous.
If this man thought he was going to get away with banning an old woman just because she was in a mobility scooter, he was making a big mistake. She might’ve been old, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t fight back.
Mrs. Callaway
Mrs. Callaway was an energetic and eccentric 93-year-old who adored her life. She had been through far too much in her life to dwell on the little things. And she dedicated her time to the two most important people she had left – her daughter and granddaughter.
She had no idea that the little habits they created would end up causing them so much trouble.
Almost Fit
Even at her age, Mrs. Callaway was relatively fit. Of course, she had the occasional muscle pains and groaning joints. But there was no way she was going to let that hold her back.
There was one problem, though. Even though she tried her best, there was one thing that came with age, and it was something she could do nothing about.
One Problem
Mrs. Callaway was suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis, and it was progressing much faster than it should’ve. She was diagnosed in 2014, and by 2016 she could no longer walk on her own.
Because of that, Mrs. Callaway used a mobility scooter, and luckily, her granddaughter, Amelia, loved joining her on her trips through the city.
Weekly Visit
Since Amelia was born five years ago, she has been visiting her grandma on a weekly basis. Her mom always worked longer on Wednesdays, so grandma would pick her up at kindergarten, and the two of them would roll around town.
But there was one thing both of them adored, and it had become the Wednesday norm.
Their Routine
It was the first thing they did every Wednesday afternoon. They would go from the kindergarten to the local diner, where they would share a portion of chicken nuggets.
And this visit would be no different. At least, that was what Mrs. Callaway thought. But she was in for one massive surprise. It would be so big that she wouldn’t be able to let it go.
A Trip To The Diner
The day started like any other. Mrs. Callaway got herself ready, and at 11 am, she left to pick Amelia up from the kindergarten. Amelia immediately got settled on the mobility scooter, and the two of them made their way to the local diner.
They were completely unaware that disaster was lurking just around the corner.
Taking The Drive-Thru
Mrs. Callaway turned into the drive-thru, not knowing that someone was watching her intently. But she would uncover the truth soon enough, and once she did, her entire attitude would change.
This person was crossing a line that should never have been crossed. And Mrs. Callaway would not allow them to get away with it.
Nothing Unusual
At first, it seemed like nothing was out of place. The special Wednesday was proceeding just like any other. But behind the scenes, that wasn’t the case at all.
This meaningful day was about to take a turn for the worst, and the poor old grandma would be faced with something she never saw coming. How would she deal with the situation?
Placing The Order
Mrs. Callaway drove up to the little speaker on the side of the road and ordered two large nugget meals. It was more than she would normally order, but she was feeling a little bold that day, and she wanted to spoil her granddaughter.
If only she knew that someone was out to ruin her appetite.
Making The Payment
After placing her order, Mrs. Callaway proceeded to the next window, where she paid for their meals. She made a few jokes with the staff members as she always did and went on her way.
But there was someone lurking in the background, and if it wasn’t for her delightful mood, she might’ve realized that they weren’t too pleased with her appearance.
Waiting For The Food
Mrs. Callaway was having a fat chat with her granddaughter as they waited for their food to arrive. But after a rather lengthy wait, Mrs. Callaway was starting to wonder about what was going on.
Why on earth was their food taking so long to come out? It usually took a few minutes, but the drivers behind them were already starting to complain about them blocking the way.
The Manager Approaches
Just as Mrs. Callaway was trying to get one of the staff members’ attention, she saw a man approaching her. He had her order in his hand, but he didn’t look like any of the other people working in the restaurant.
Instead of wearing the signature t-shirt, he was wearing something more formal. He looked more like a businessman than a server.
A Stern Warning
The man introduced himself as the manager of the establishment, and he was delivering the food personally because he had something to say to the old woman who was using his drive-thru.
The manager told Mrs. Callaway that even though he allowed it this time, she was not allowed to use the drive-thru. And if she did, she would receive a lifetime ban.
She Couldn’t Believe It
Mrs. Callaway couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She was so shocked that she actually asked the man to repeat himself, but he said exactly the same thing.
He told her that she could either walk into the restaurant or she didn’t have to come back. If only he knew who he was really dealing with.
