She Was Mistaken
She could not grasp what was happening despite her best efforts. She intended to pay for the groceries of a homeless man. Her mistake, however, appeared to be a costly one. She had never been arrested before.
The outcome of her good deed couldn’t have been more cruel. The sight of a badge flashing and a police car coming towards her was something she never imagined she would see.
Approached By The Police
As she shopped at the grocery store, she was interrupted by the cop. She hadn’t a clue what she could have done in spite of her best efforts.
The last time she was there was just a day earlier. She was ready for a confrontation the moment the officer said, “Ma’am, please come with me.” What could she have done wrong? Seeing him again couldn’t have been predicted. There was a difference in his appearance this time.
Help Offered
Her tears began to flow as she recalled the events of the previous day. As he waited in line, a homeless man had a carton of milk and bread, but he was having trouble reaching the counter.
The pockets of his pants were almost empty. In response to his laydown of a few coins, the clerk just shook his head. It seemed right for Martha to step in.
Kind-hearted
She was only motivated by helping a homeless man. There was no request for repayment from her end.
Her payment for the essentials was completed within minutes. It was ironic that karma stuck her in the hardest way, despite her belief that it would reward her.
Uncertainty
He stared at Martha once more as she snapped back into the present. Her perception of him changed after she looked at his clothes.
She was still unaware of why she was being held in the parking lot by police. Despite this, the old woman was unable to handle the truth.
Hard Times
The sixty-two-year-old Martha was not always struggling to get through the day. Teaching was her favorite before she retired. Even though life wasn’t always easy, there were times when it was.
She had a special situation with her son, Patrick, who was twenty-two years old and still in need of care.
He Was Loved By Her
She adored Patrick, even after he was diagnosed with autism at the age of twelve, and he will always be her favorite. She was glad they caught it even though it was late.
The severity of his condition prevented him from being able to function like an adult fully. As a mother, she accepted taking care of him, knowing that he would require her care for the rest of his life.
Her Best Efforts
Despite being sixty-two years old and raising a dependent son, she found it challenging to be a single mother. Despite many hardships, she persevered as a woman of strong will.
A drunk driver killed her husband just a year after Patrick was born. It was important for her to fight for her son, even though she was grieving for her husband. Although she received a pension, it wasn’t exactly a fortune.
Struggling Financially
The only thing Martha was grateful for was that she still had her son in her life, despite each month’s financial sacrifices.
Whenever there was a special at her local grocery store, Martha would shop there to save money. A weekly check-in was required of her due to her busy schedule. In spite of her situation, she still had a big heart.
Nicknamed “Mother Martha”
Martha was known for having the biggest heart in the world by those who knew her best. Her assistance could be relied upon by everyone who knew her well.
In her situation, no one else could have survived, and sometimes she even thrived, lending a helping hand to others. She was affectionately known as “Mother Martha” by her friends.
Sweet Old Lady
Even though Martha herself had misfortune, she would lend a hand regardless. Her ideals were unwavering and she would never compromise them.
Martha wouldn’t hesitate to lend charity one day, even if she didn’t know it yet. But when a police badge flashed, she had no idea what was coming.
At The Store
In order to buy food that she desperately needed, she would shop at her local grocery store once she received money from her pension. To find clearance items for her and her son, she would check out the fresh fruit and dairy aisles.
In addition to finding good deals, she also picked up essential items such as bread and meat before going to the cashier. She will be tested today, however.
Man In Need Of Help
As Martha went shopping, she spotted a homeless man just trying to make ends meet. As she knew sometimes it was hard to make ends meet, her heart went out to him. His arms were full of a carton of milk and a loaf of bread as he stood in front of her. Although it wasn’t much, it was enough to keep him going for a few days. As the story unfolded, Martha’s heart broke.
She could see that the man was having some difficulty. When he finished digging through his pockets, she noticed that the stitching had a huge hole in it – this wasn’t good. A few dimes were placed on the counter by the man as he started trembling. As he stared at him, the clerk shook his head insensitively. Taking action was Martha’s only option.
Call Me “Mother Martha”
“Hello, sir. Could I help you? I’d be happy to pay for them.” She asked politely. Immediately, his posture relaxed as he thanked her.
With a look of uncertainty in his eyes, he added, “I can’t pay you back.” The old woman smiled and waved her debit card over the card before saying, “Considering it a gift from Mother Martha.”
Sharing Kindness
A smile spread across the man’s face as he walked out of the grocery store with his groceries. As Martha watched someone smile after another good deed, she was touched.
It was no problem for her to buy an extra loaf of bread and milk when he sorely needed it. She didn’t know certain facts, and he wasn’t who he claimed to be.
